
The Happy Prince is a titular protagonist in the short story "The Happy Prince" from the collection The Happy Prince and Other Tales. He is a deceased human prince whose sentience continued to live inside of a statue built in his honor. During his life as a human, he was careless and happy as he lived in a luxurious palace in which he didn't know about the hardships of the poor. After being placed as a statue on the high ground, he became sad and befriended a travelling Swallow whom he tasked to distribute his valuable body parts to the needy.
