The Graduate is a satirical/black comedy/psychological drama film released in 1967.
In the film, a recent graduate returns home to Pasadena, quickly falling into depression as he ponders what his future will hold. Complicating things, he is quickly groomed into a romantic affair with a family friend, who vehemently forbids him from getting close to her daughter. The film was directed by Mike Nichols and stars Anne Bancroft, Dustin Hoffman, Katharine Ross and Murray Hamilton. It is based off of Charles Webb's 1963 novel of the same name.
The film is considered one of the most influential drama films ever made. The film is also well known for its folk rock soundtrack courtesy of Simon & Garfunkle.
