The Conversation is a 1974 American psychological/political thriller film written, produced, and directed by Francis Ford Coppola. It stars Gene Hackman, John Cazale, Allen Garfield, Cindy Williams, Frederic Forrest, Harrison Ford, Teri Garr and Robert Duvall.

In the film, a religious surveillance expert is tasked with recording the conversation between a couple in a busy San Francisco square. As he cleans up the recording however, he hears a line that indicates the two are targeted by a potential murderer, and he races to save them from the same fate as one of his former target who turned up dead.
