The Book of Eli

The Book of Eli is a 2010 American post-apocalyptic neo-Western action film directed by the Hughes Brothers. It stars Denzel Washington, Gary Oldman, Mila Kunis, the late Ray Stevenson, and Jennifer Beals. Included with copies of the film is the first chapter of a two-part motion-graphic comic set before the apocalypse called The Book of Eli: The Lost Tales.

Eli walks alone in post-apocalyptic America. He heads west along the Highway of Death on a mission he doesn't fully understand but knows he must complete. In his backpack is the last copy of a book that could become the wellspring of a revived society. Or in the wrong hands, the hammer of a despot.

Notes[]

  • An unknown number of people died in the nuclear holocaust that occurred 30 years before the film's events.
  • It's difficult to count how many deaths happened during the bar fight, though many are obvious, especially the decapitations and torso stabs. It's possible some of the counted victims were not actually killed.
  • George and Martha had a graveyard behind their house where they buried the people they killed, and the number is based on how many graves can be seen, though it's possible they killed more. All of their kills are attributed to both of them, though it's likely they were all killed by George due to his large collection of traps and weapons.
  • In the deleted/alternate scenes, there are more deaths:
    • In the first deleted scene, Eli walks past a bus with at least five skeletons in it.
    • In the final deleted scene, it appears that Carnegie finally dies from his infection, though it's not confirmed.
