The Ape is a 1940 American Monogram Pictures horror and sci-fi film directed by the late William Nigh, produced by Scott R. Dunlap, and starring the late Boris Karloff, the late Gene O'Donnell, the late Maris Wrixon, the late Henry Hall, the late Gertrude Hoffmann, and the late Dorothy Vaughan. It is based on Adam Hull Shirk's 1924 play, The Ape.
Dr. Adrian (Boris Karloff) is a mad scientist who seeks to cure a young girl's (Maris Wrixon) polio. It needs spinal fluid from a human to complete the formula of its serum. Meanwhile, a circus monkey comes out of the cage and terrorizes the townspeople.
