The 400 Blows (French: Les quatre cents coups) is a coming-of-age film released in 1959.
In the film, a young teenager begins to grow resentful of the adults in his life. He eventually drops out of school and turn to a life of crime, which ends in quick disaster. The film was directed by François Truffaut and stars Jean-Pierre Léaud, Albert Rémy, Claire Maurier and Guy Decomble. It is the feature debut of Truffaut, and alongside Hiroshima mon amour and Breathless are credited with starting French New Wave and heavily influencing cinema in general. It is the first film in the Antoine Doinel film series.
