Stefan Salvatore, formerly known as The Ripper of Monterey, is one of the three main protagonists in The Vampire Diaries, and a minor protagonist in season three of the tv show The Originals. He was born in the 19th century, he is a vampire who struggles with his dual nature - his compassion and morality often clash with his darker, bloodthirsty instincts. Unlike his brother Damon, Stefan tries to live by a strict moral code, frequently feeding on animals instead of humans to control his urges, which earns him the nickname "the ripper" when he loses control.
He is portrayed by Paul Wesley as an adult, and by Sawyer Bell and Luke Judy as a child.
