Shutter Island (2010), directed by Martin Scorsese and based on Dennis Lehane's novel, is a psychological thriller set in 1954. The film follows U.S. Marshal Teddy Daniels (played by Leonardo DiCaprio) and his partner, Chuck Aule (Mark Ruffalo), as they investigate the disappearance of a patient from Ashecliffe Hospital, a psychiatric facility on the remote Shutter Island.
Teddy suspects foul play and begins uncovering disturbing details about the hospital's staff and its unethical treatments. As the investigation progresses, Teddy's own traumatic past, including his experiences during World War II and the death of his wife, resurfaces, blurring the lines between reality and delusion.
