—Official tagline

Picnic at Hanging Rock is a mystery film released in 1975.

In the film, a group of schoolgirls on a Valentine's Day picnic suddenly disappear under otherworldly circumstances. In the aftermath, various parties are affected by their disappearances from their final witnesses to their close friends. The film was directed by Peter Weir and stars Rachel Roberts, Dominic Guard, Margaret Nelson, Anne-Louise Lambert and John Jarratt. It is based off of Joan Lindsay's 1967 novel of the same name, which although it is presented as true events, it is actually pure fiction. The film was remade into a miniseries in 2017.
