Mary Shelley's Frankenstein is a 1994 American and Japanese horror sci-fi film directed by Kenneth Branagh, produced by Francis Ford Coppola, James V. Hart, and the late John Veitch, and starring Branagh, Helena Bonham Carter, Robert De Niro, Tom Hulce, John Cleese, and the late Ian Holm. It is considered the most faithful film adaptation of Mary Shelley's 1818 novel Frankenstein, despite several differences and additions.
Victor Frankenstein (Kenneth Branagh) is a promising young doctor who, devastated by the death of his mother (Cherie Lunghi) during childbirth, becomes obsessed with bringing the dead back to life. His experiments lead to the creation of a monster (Robert De Niro), which Frankenstein has put together with the remains of corpses. It's not long before Frankenstein regrets his actions.
