La Dictadura Perfecta (The Perfect Dictatorship) is a Mexican political satire comedy film directed by Luis Estrada, with a screenplay co-written with Jaime Sampietro and an ensemble cast starring Damián Alcázar, Alfonso Herrera, María Rojo, Joaquín Cosío, Silvia Navarro, Salvador Sánchez, and Osvaldo Benavides, presenting an open critique of the government of Enrique Peña Nieto, who was the president of Mexico at the time of its release, as well as the network of corruption established with Televisa, the largest media company in the Americas.
Governor Carmelo Vargas (Damián Alcázar), who, after being involved in a corruption scandal, seeks to clean up his image with the help of an influential television network that, in exchange for money and political favors, manipulates information, creates smokescreens, and turns him into a viable presidential candidate, hiding his crimes and portraying him as an exemplary leader, while the film exposes how public opinion is manipulated, how news is fabricated to distract society, and how political and media power work together to maintain a corrupt system.
