Joker is a 2019 DC origin film directed by Todd Phillips and stars both Joaquin Phoenix and Robert De Niro. A sequel, entitled Joker: Folie á Deux, was released in October of 2024.
Forever alone in a crowd, failed comedian Arthur Fleck seeks connection as he walks the streets of Gotham City. Arthur wears two masks -- the one he paints for his day job as a clown, and the guise he projects in a futile attempt to feel like he's part of the world around him. Isolated, bullied and disregarded by society, Fleck begins a slow descent into madness as he transforms into the criminal mastermind known as the Joker.

Trivia[]
- In an alternate ending to the film, Arthur Fleck was going to be the one to kill Thomas and Martha Wayne much like the Tim Burton version of The Joker and spare Bruce at first, only to then turn around and shoot Bruce anyways. This was cut due to Batman needing to survive to make any sequels.
