Sir Ian Francis Chesterton is a companion of the First Doctor, acting as a major protagonist in season 1 and 2 of Doctor Who. He was a science teacher at Coal Hill School in 1960s London, before traveling in the TARDIS with Barbara Wright and Susan Foreman.
He is portrayed by the late William Russell.
