House of 1000 Corpses poster

House of 1000 Corpses is a 2003 American black comedy horror film written, co-scored, and directed by Rob Zombie in his directorial debut, and the first film in the Firefly film series. It stars the late Sid Haig, Bill Moseley, Sheri Moon, Karen Black, Rainn Wilson, Chris Hardwick, Tom Towles, and Dennis Fimple in his final role. The plot centers on a group of teenagers who are kidnapped and tortured by a psychotic family, during Halloween, after traveling across the country to write a book.

Inspired by 1970s horror films such as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) and The Hills Have Eyes (1977), Zombie conceived the film while designing a haunted house attraction for Universal Studios Hollywood, where filming took place in 2000 on the backlots and Valencia, California. When the studio shelved the film fearing that it would receive an NC-17 rating due to graphic scenes which were cut and now lost, Zombie re-acquired the rights. They were eventually sold to Lions Gate Entertainment, who released the film in April 2003. Despite receiving an unfavorable response from critics it went on to gross $16 million worldwide. Since its release, the film has achieved a cult following, was developed into a haunted house attraction by Zombie for Universal Studios, and was followed by two sequels, The Devil's Rejects (2005) and 3 from Hell (2019).

Notes[]

  • It would be impossible to count all the human and animal skulls seen in the movie.
  • It would also be impossible to count the deleted scenes such as a character named Miss Bunny who was cut out played by the late Jeanne Carmen a dead animal puppeteer with a show like a psychedelic 'Pee-wee's Playhouse since they are lost except for a still from a different ending where Jerry Goldsmith is torn apart by zombies and a still from a different ending that Rob Zombie posted to his Instagram that he found with an unidentified skeleton man opening Johnny Lee Johns/Captain Spaulding's truck door possibly to chase after Denise Willis and another still with Johnny Lee Johns/Captain Spaulding truck with him in it.
  • The Firefly family is implied to have been serial killers before they met but it does not say how many people they killed.
  • It does not say how many people S. Quentin Quale/Dr. Satan killed before the film.
  • The scene with Captain Spaulding's Museum of Monsters and Madmen Johnny Lee Johns/Captain Spaulding talks about various killers such as Lizzie Borden and Ed Gein but their victims will not be counted because they happened in real life.
  • There many posters of missing people seen during the movie but it does not say if they were the same case.
  • The title of the film House of 1000 Corpses is implying that the family has killed 1000 people but there is proof to back that up.
  • Vera-Ellen Firefly/Baby Firefly is seen wearing a sparkling dress and various other outfits which she probably stole but it does not say if she killed someone to steal it.
  • There is a scene where a bunch of shoes are seen but it is impossible to count them all.
  • None of the grave stones will be counted because they could just be props.
  • The Professor's death is listed as debatable because he reappears at the end with Dr. Satan after Denise is recaptured, although it might've been Denise's dying hallucination after she was stabbed by Otis B. Driftwood.
  • In Denise Willis's dream a man says he is going to kill the Skunk Ape but it does not say if he does but there was a deleted scene with the Skunk Ape but that is lost.
