House (TV Show)

House (also called House, M.D.) is an American medical drama television series created by David Shore that originally ran on the Fox network for eight seasons, from November 16, 2004, to May 21, 2012. It stars Hugh Laurie as the title character, with Lisa Edelstein, Omar Epps, Robert Sean Leonard, Jennifer Morrison, Jesse Spencer, Peter Jacobson, Kal Penn, Olivia Wilde, Amber Tamblyn, Odette Annable, and Charlyne Yi in supporting roles.

At fictional Princeton Plainsboro Teaching Hospital in New Jersey, prickly genius Dr. Gregory House (Hugh Laurie) tackles health mysteries as would a medical Sherlock Holmes, all the while playing mind games with colleagues that include his best friend, oncologist James Wilson (Robert Sean Leonard). House, an acerbic infectious disease specialist, solves medical puzzles with the help of a team of young diagnosticians. Flawless instincts and unconventional thinking help earn House great respect, despite his brutal honesty and antisocial tendencies.

Notes

In General

  • Whoever the main patient of each episode is will be listed in italics in the case of their death.

Season 1

  • In the episode "Occam's Razor", House mentions that 7,000 people a year die from pharmacy screw-ups, but this was just a rough estimate and isn't likely fully accurate, so it won't be counted.
  • In the episode "The Socratic Method", Lucy Palmeiro mentions that she killed her cat some time prior to the episode, but this was likely untrue seeing as she is a schizophrenic and the death is never alluded to at all during the episode, so it won't be counted.
  • In the episode "Histories", James mentions that he hadn't seen his brother in nine years because he had became homeless and went out into the world on his own, but it is unknown if he had ultimately died during this time period, so he won't be counted.
  • In the episode "Detox", Cuddy mentions that around 2,000 patients die a year because they fail to get a donor liver, but this was just a rough estimate and isn't likely fully accurate, so it won't be counted.
  • In the episode "Kids", Foreman has to use the Morgue of the hospital as a room for Mary, and Mary asks if there were dead people in the Mortuary cabinets, to which Foreman replies with "I hope that's who's in there.", but it's unknown if the cabinets actually were holding any corpses, so none will be counted.

Season 2

  • In the episode "No Reason", it is revealed that the whole episode was a hallucination, with the exception of the beginning where House gets shot by Jack Moriarty, so that means that both of the deaths in the episode, Jack's Wife, who was mentioned to have committed suicide by poisoning herself with carbon monoxide, and Vince, who House disembowels with a medical machine, never actually happened, so neither of them will be counted.

Season 3

  • In the episode "Informed Consent", Chase mentions that in the past, every doctor that he'd ever practiced with had honored their patients wish of dying by giving them a syringe full of morphine to commit suicide with, but since it is unknown how many doctors he'd practiced with previously and how many of their patients had wanted to go out this way, only two will be counted for the minimum.
    • Later in the episode, Wilson mentions that House had helped several patients commit suicide with morphine that were terminal in the past, but since it is unknown as to how many he'd helped commit suicide, only two will be counted for the minimum.
  • In the episode "Que Será Será", George mentions that there are over 300,000 deaths every year due to medical mistakes, but since that is just an estimation and an exact number isn't given, none will be counted.
    • In the same conversation, Foreman mentions that there are over 400,000 obesity related deaths each year, but since that is also just an estimation and an exact number isn't given, none will be counted.
  • In the episode "Son of Coma Guy", Gabriel Wozniak and House go over all of Gabriel's deceased relatives in an attempt to find a solution to his sons disease, but only four relatives and their causes of death are directly mentioned, though it is implied that many more were mentioned off-screen, so only two others will be counted for the minimum.
