Hokuriku Proxy War (Japanese: 北陸代理戦争 "Hokuriku Dairi Sensō") is a yakuza film released in 1977.
In the film, a rowdy gangster barely escapes a brutal assassination in Fukui. After faking his own death, he returns to the criminal underworld in order to come out victorious. The film was directed by Kinji Fukasaku and stars Hiroki Matsukata, Yumiko Nogawa, Goro Ibuki, and Sonny Chiba.
The film was a loose biography of Hokuriku yakuza boss Hiroshi Kawauchi. A month after this film's release, Kawauchi would be murdered at the same location depicted in the film with this film believed to have served as an apparent motive. For this reason, it became the final yakuza film made by Toei Company due to the controversy that surrounded the incident.
