Dragon Ball Z: Dead Zone is a film from the Dragon Ball series released in 1989. It was directed by Daisuke Nishio and was the first movie in the Dragon Ball Z series, and first in whole franchise to feature its own independent plot.

It is set between the original 1986 series and the Z series and retells story of the first saga in a what if-like scenario, in which Son Gohan, son of Son Goku is kidnapped by evil alien demon Garlic Jr. and his henchmen in their quest for immortality.

Victims[]

  • Giant Fish - Killed by Son Goku for food off-camera, body shown.
  • 44 Unnamed Makyan Warriors - Killed by the Nameless Guardian off-screen, shown in a flashback.
  • 137 Unnamed Winged Makyans - Killed by the Nameless Guardian off-screen, shown in a flashback.
  • At least 300 Unnamed Makyan Warriors - Killed by the Nameless Guardian off-screen, shown in a flashback.
  • Garlic (Makyan) - Sealed off for eternity inside Dead Zone by the Nameless Guardian, shown in a flashback.
  • Sansho (Makyan) - Sent flying and smashed through several pillars and into a wall by Piccolo Jr. and then zapped with a hand Ki blast finishing him off.
  • Ginger (Makyan) - Obliterated by Son Goku with a Kamehameha Wave.
  • Nicky (Makyan) - Obligerated by Son Goku with a Kamehameha Wave.

Deaths[]

  • Total - 486
    • 485 Makyans
      • 481 Victims of Unknown Gender
      • 4 Males
    • 1 Giant Fish

Kill Counts[]

  1. Nameless Guardian - 482 (Deceased)
  2. Son Goku - 3 (Alive)
  3. Piccolo Jr. - 1 (Alive)

Notes[]

  • At one point in the movie in the flashback scene a giant Makyan army is shown, and since they all blend into one big blob they will be counted like that: the flying ones which can be counted individually will be counted like that, while the ground warriors will be split into two parts which is first the ones we see in other parts of that flashback and can count them individually, while second one is an estimate based on the giant shot of the army we see in which there are around 15 Makyans in a single row, and it seems like there are around 20 rows going on-screen, giving roughly 300 as an estimate (which might be correct considering that it seems that the flying ones are almost even with the walking ones).
  • At end of the movie Garlic Jr. is sealed off inside Dead Zone, but since he is both fully immortal at this point and actually comes back in the CANON series of Dragon Ball Z he won't be counted.
  • Also since the Nameless Guardian is deceased and reincarnated into Kami and Piccolo Jr. at this point in the plot, he will be listed as deceased even though he doesn't die in the movie.
