Dr. Emmett Meridian is a minor antagonist in the first season of Dexter, appearing only in the episode "Shrink Wrap". He is a manipulative psychiatrist who coerces some of his patients into committing suicide, namely women in positions of power. Although it is not specified why he does this, it can be assumed it is because he enjoys removing their power.
He is portrayed by Tony Goldwyn, who also directed the episode he appears in.
