Survival

Horror media where the protagonists must survive overwhelming odds or other people until they either escape the scenario they're trapped in or hide until they're saved by somebody else.

The main protagonists rarely if ever have any power at all over their situation and it's even more rare that they get the upper hand on their captors or tormentors, though it does happen from time to time. The best examples of this genre would be the Saw film series or the Outlast video game series.
