Branded to Kill (Japanese: 殺しの烙印 "Koroshi no Rakuin") is a yakuza/surreal film series that started in 1967 and ended in 2001.
The series mostly follows a yakuza hitman who descends into madness while trying to climb the ranks of the yakuza and become the top hitman of Japan. The series consists of the original released in 1967 directed by Seijun Suzuki and stars Joe Shishido, Annu Mari, and Koji Nanbara, a remake released in 1972 directed by Atsushi Yamatoya and stars Genjiro Arato, Moeko Ezawa, and Nozomi Yasuda, and a direct sequel to the original also directed by Seijun Suzuki and stars Makiko Esumi, Sayoko Yamaguchi, and Kirin Kiki. There was also an undeveloped sequel that would have been directed by Seijun Suzuki and stars Joe Shishido.
