Abashiri Prison (Japanese: 網走番外地 "Abashiri Bangaichi") is a prison/survival/yakuza film released in 1965.
In the film, a yakuza enforcer desperately feels the need to go back home after he is sent to a rural Hokkaido prison. When it is time of parole however, he is forced into an escape plot by a fellow inmate. The film was directed by Teruo Ishii and stars Ken Takakura, Kōji Nanbara and Tetsurō Tamba. It is based off of Hajime Itō's 1956 novel of the same name, though the story also borrows heavily from The Defiant Ones. It is the first film in the Abashiri Prison series.
